The COVID-19 pandemic has profoundly changed the perception of touch. It became a source of danger and, at the same time, a sign of trust and intimacy—underrated luxuries that, as Wenyan Xu shows, we are now longing for. Looking at Wenyan’s mixed media pieces, one cannot resist thinking about baroque monumental painting with its exuberance, crowded fresco ceilings, full of intertwined levitating bodies.
