Artist Interview | Bondarieva Oksana

Introducing Bondarieva Oksana, an artist exploring the interplay between organic and machine.

Artist Interview with Bondarieva Oksana.

When it comes to your art, explain what you do.

My work focuses on visual storytelling at the intersection of technology, nature, and contemporary culture. I create digital images and video-based works that explore how artificial systems and organic life influence and reshape one another. Using AI and digital tools as creative instruments, I build surreal yet emotionally grounded scenes where technology feels fragile, and nature feels intelligent and alive. My process combines experimentation with intention, balancing concept, atmosphere, and visual detail. Rather than illustrating ideas directly, I aim to create images that invite reflection and emotional response. Through my practice, I explore themes of transformation, coexistence, and the evolving relationship between humans, machines, and the natural world.

What project are you working on now?

I am currently working on a new visual project that lives at the intersection of technology and nature.

In this series, I imagine a world where digital structures are no longer separate from organic life. Microchips, circuits, and technological surfaces become fertile ground for growth—mushrooms emerge, mycelium spreads, and living networks slowly weave themselves through artificial forms. What was once rigid and engineered begins to breathe.

The project is inspired by the idea that nature is not in conflict with technology, but capable of absorbing it, transforming it, and giving it new meaning. Mycelium becomes a central symbol—a quiet intelligence beneath the surface, connecting everything invisibly, much like data flows and neural networks in the digital world.

Why do you do what you do?

I do what I do because creating is the most natural way for me to express ideas and emotions.

I’ve always been drawn to visual storytelling. Working with images, video, and digital tools allows me to turn abstract thoughts into something tangible and shareable. I enjoy exploring new technologies and using them as creative instruments rather than just technical tools.

What motivates me most is the process itself—experimenting, discovering new forms, and watching an idea come to life. Creating gives me a sense of purpose and constant movement forward.

How has your practice changed over time?

Over time, my practice has become more focused and intentional.

In the beginning, I experimented a lot with different styles, tools, and formats, exploring what felt right. As I gained more experience, I started to understand my visual language better and became more confident in my creative choices.

Technology has also played a big role in this evolution. I now work more consciously with AI and digital tools, using them not just for experimentation, but as an integral part of my creative process. I focus more on concept, mood, and storytelling rather than just visuals.

Overall, my practice has shifted from exploration to clarity—from trying many things to developing a deeper, more coherent artistic direction.

What is your strongest childhood memory?

One of my strongest childhood memories is spending long hours quietly observing the world around me.

I remember being deeply absorbed in small details—light on walls, textures of objects, the way nature and everyday spaces felt rather than how they looked. I could sit for a long time watching, imagining, and creating my own inner worlds.

That sense of calm observation and imagination stayed with me. Looking back, I realize that this habit of noticing subtle details and atmospheres later became the foundation of my visual practice.

Describe a real-life experience that inspired you.

A real-life experience that inspired me was noticing how much beauty and meaning can exist in ordinary, everyday moments.

There were periods when I slowed down and simply observed my surroundings—streets, interiors, nature, people, light changing throughout the day. I realized that inspiration doesn’t always come from dramatic events, but from paying attention to subtle details that are usually overlooked.

That experience taught me to see inspiration everywhere and to translate small, quiet moments into visual form. It strongly influenced the way I work today, focusing on atmosphere, mood, and emotion rather than spectacle.

What superpower would you like to have and why?

I would like to have the ability to slow down time.

Slowing time would allow me to notice details that usually pass too quickly—subtle emotions, light, movement, and moments of transition. It would give space for deeper observation and reflection, which are essential to my creative process. Being able to pause the world, even briefly, feels like the ultimate creative advantage.

What is your dream creative project?

My dream creative project is to create an immersive AI art museum.

I imagine a space where digital art, artificial intelligence, and human creativity come together in an interactive environment.
Visitors wouldn’t just observe artworks, but experience them—moving through evolving visuals, sound, and light generated in real time.

This museum would be a living system, constantly changing and responding to its audience. It would blur the boundaries between artist, technology, and viewer, turning art into a shared, evolving experience rather than a static object.

Which place in the world do you find to be the most inspiring?

I find the most inspiration in new places—places I see for the first time.

Being in an unfamiliar environment sharpens my perception. New cities, landscapes, and cultures make me more attentive to details, atmospheres, and subtle differences. When everything is new, I observe more closely and feel more open creatively.

For me, inspiration comes from discovery—from stepping into unknown spaces and allowing them to influence the way I see and create.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice I’ve ever been given is to trust my own intuition.

I was told that not everything needs to be explained, justified, or compared to others. Learning to listen to my inner sense has helped me make more honest, creative decisions and stay focused on my own path rather than external expectations.

Do you make a living off of your art?

Yes, my creative work is an important part of my professional life.

I work across multiple formats—creating visual content, digital art, and AI-based projects—and collaborate with brands and clients. This allows me to support myself creatively while continuing to develop my artistic practice. At the same time, I see my art as an evolving process, where commercial projects and personal work inform and strengthen each other.

What are your hobbies?

Outside of my creative practice, I enjoy staying active and spending time outdoors. Hiking in the mountains and walking through forests help me clear my mind and reconnect with nature.

I also love photography and making videos. Capturing moments, movement, and atmosphere—whether in nature or everyday life—is something I genuinely enjoy, both as a hobby and as part of my creative expression.

What’s the most indispensable item in your studio/practice?

The most indispensable element in my practice is my computer.

It is where all ideas come together—from concept development and experimentation to final visuals. It allows me to work with AI, digital tools, and visual narratives without limitation. More than just a tool, it functions as a studio, archive, and creative partner at the same time.

Creatively, where do you see yourself in the next five years?

In the next five years, I see myself continuing to grow as an artist while working on larger-scale and more immersive projects.

I want to deepen my practice at the intersection of AI, visual art, and storytelling, creating works that exist beyond screens—in exhibitions, installations, and experiential spaces. I see myself collaborating with institutions, brands, and cultural platforms, while also developing long-term personal projects.

Most importantly, I see my work becoming more confident, refined, and impactful—with a clear artistic voice and a global audience.
