Jim Baab, ArtAscent Gold Artist of the Hidden call for artists

Exploring the concept of “The Human Landscape,” Jim Baab conjured a series of photographs employing fantasy in creation of imagined scenes. His black and white photographs are results of experimental practice in which human body assumes an unexpected value by altering the prospect, thus remaining hidden and unrecognizable for what it is. Jesse McMurray

The Fix

Two minutes ago, I finally found The Fix, my eyes blinking rapidly in small gestures of acuity, opened to the deep of my electric mind. As the barricades are breached, I’m attuned to sights that were unseen, hidden from my gaze before The Fix pierced my thoughts, turned the uncertainty on end. I’ve come to realize the things that I’ve known all along, but couldn’t grasp. Everything has been in increments, staggered…

An introspective construct of Jesse McMurray emerged as a short story after having meditated upon the abstract characteristics encompassed in the idea of “hidden.” “The Fix” arose from the swarming pool of the writer’s thoughts, yearning to untangle some of the most basic, hence the most difficult, inner knots a person can encounter. First impressions of a large spatial installation created by Francine LeClercq are inescapably misleading. A flock of little black plaques scattered around the exhibition space walls appear purely abstract, while their conceptual reality remains largely open to interpretation. The observer is compelled to approach the wall and touch the small three-inch by two-inch panels, thus revealing what lies beneath – a hidden image, a memory, a connection. Lifelong fascination with the idea of interpenetrating dimensions overwhelms the recent body of work by photographer Jay Gould while unveiling a marvellous notion of other. Glimpses of portals leading into hidden realities pervade his imagery, presented as solid, scientific findings, grounded in mathematical research and calculations. In Her Eyes

Sarah, please, would you just stop and listen, give me a moment to defend my position.”
The words had barely the chance to escape before I realized the mistake. This was not my Sarah, but a stranger instead who had stolen her eyes from my wife’s head…

The Pigeoneer Saint

Hath I not hear you speak?
Assailing a pedestal – a subtle screech,
A thimble, the fawn of a stout so dear,
Prying at willows, in a cheery piping song.
As vast as invisible currents along,
Your beak spurs a dainty breach…

Hidden In Plain Sight

“Shut up!” Jason said, shaking Chelsea by the shoulders. She lost her balance, striking her head against the bookcase on her way to the floor.

“Chelsea, don’t be dramatic. Get up.”

Jason kicked her in the side, a gentle nudge the first time, a more forceful blow the second.

When Chelsea didn’t move, Jason stooped and grabbed her face, slapping it. “Wake up, damn it!” he yelled into her ear. His hands trembled …
